Partnership explores how the car serves as both creative studio and ultimate listening room
Volvo Car USA has partnered with award-winning singer songwriter EJAE to explore the car as a creative studio through “Time After Time”, an original pop track born from EJAE’s creative relationship with music on the road.
The collaboration was inspired by a real moment in EJAE’s creative life: she first captured the melody for one of her most celebrated songs as a simple voice note recorded in a car. Like many songwriters and recording artists at the top of their craft, she relies on the crucial “car test” to check how her music translates outside of the recording studio – making sure fans hear it the way she intended.
“The car is where I really connect with my music as a listener, not just an artist,” said EJAE. “I’ll sit there for hours, playing a track on repeat, and you hear it all – every layer, every emotion. It’s an honest test of whether the song really works. When Volvo Cars approached me, it wasn’t about writing a song for a car – it was about honoring a place that’s already central to my creative process.”
Inside the Volvo XC60, a cabin engineered for a sense of calm becomes the ideal listening room. Featuring 15 high-fidelity speakers, the available Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system offers four distinct listening modes – from studio-flat accuracy to the exact acoustics of the Gothenburg Concert Hall – surrounding passengers with a pristine sound that’s spacious and true to life, just as the artist intended.
“Time After Time” aligns with elements of the XC60 itself; its iconic turn signal sound is subtly woven into the track, reinforcing how creativity emerges from everyday moments and that inspiration for music is everywhere.
“EJAE understands something we’ve always believed – that the best ideas often happen in motion,” said Janique Helson, Head of Brand Marketing, Content & Creative Services at Volvo Car USA. “She's an artist who keeps refining until every detail feels right, and that relentless pursuit of getting it right is something we recognize in ourselves. We are proud to partner with her.”
“Time After Time” is available on all major streaming platforms starting today; visit here to listen.
